Karyn's Artist Statement:
I currently call my artwork "Archeytypal Images." I am inexplicably drawn
to folklore, myth and ancient cultures, and have explored numerous physical
locations on this planet where ancient people lived and left their imprint.
I have always been interested in the symbols and images used by indigenous
people to communicate about their connection to Nature. My art involves
animals, sacred places, and most recently lost languages that stimulate
latent unconscious memories of another time. Some people have felt
themselves drawn into the paintings as if into a gateway to another
space/time. I am interested in merging the ancient with the modern, in
the interplay of contemporary design within an archetypal template. My
work is an exploration of those dynamics, and in many ways an ongoing
experiment with the alchemy of time and consciousness.
I am
self-taught, with my research having been more in the field of mythology,
archeology and anthropology. My media is acrylic primarily, and also some
watercolor. I try to paint from the right side of the brain and let the
images emerge. I learn from the paintings and often don't understand them
until many months have gone by.
